PERINATAL MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR

Hey, everyone! My name is Carrie Ackroyd and I am a perinatal mental health counselor.

I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Sociology from Middle Tennessee State University in 2014 then received my Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2016 from the University of Tennessee at Martin. Currently I am working towards obtaining my LPC/MHSP. Until then, I work directly under my clinical supervisor taking clients for telehealth services through Infinite Possibilities Counseling. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as well as mindfulness components in my practice. I am also trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT). My specialties include Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) and trauma. I recieved training in PMADs through Postpartum Support International and am certified in Perinatal Mental Health.

For years my passion was working with survivors of abuse, but this changed in 2020 when we had an incredibly traumatic failed adoption and had to hand our daughter back to her birth family after several months. Through my journey of processing that grief, and the help of wonderful people in my life, I found my passion in helping parents ensure their mental health is in tip-top shape during the transition into and through parenthood.

Although my husband and I do not have any children in our home, we have two children that we claim as our babies, both resulting in failed adoptions. For a short while we were able to experience all of the joys, fears, and other emotions of new parenthood. This has allowed for greater empathy for not only parents of newborns and infants but a better understanding of grief and loss that I can use in my practice.

In my free time I love spending time with my husband, family, and friends. My work is my passion as well. We have many plans to travel, and I love having new experiences and learning new things.
